Nissan’s performance division,Nismo,is set to make a comeback in Europe with the introduction of a high-performance iteration of the Ariya crossover.Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2024,the Ariya Nismo is an enhanced version of the top-tier Ariya e-4orce,boasting a power increase of up to 10%,refined throttle response,an exclusive Nismo driving mode, and several bold exterior modifications.
Key enhancements include a pronounced front splitter, dual vortex generators atop the roof, expanded side skirts, and redesigned rear bumpers, topped off with a ducktail spoiler. These modifications are not just aesthetic;they are part of what Nissan describes as”race-bred technologies”aimed at maximizing downforce for the all-wheel-drive crossover.
The Ariya Nismo will be available in two versions:the B6 and the B9.The base model B6 features a 66kWh battery and delivers 362 horsepower with 413 pound-feet of torque. The more advanced B9 variant steps up with a 91kWh battery—4kWh more than Ariya’s largest current option—producing 429 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. This positions the B9 above competitors like the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX in power, though slightly below the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT.
While Nissan has not disclosed the 0-62mph acceleration times or the top speed,it is anticipated that the Ariya Nismo will significantly outpace the fastest existing Ariya model, which clocks 62mph in 5.1 seconds and tops out at 124mph.
Weighing two tonnes, the B6 is lighter than the B9,which is approximately 200kg heavier. The B9 also sits 5-10mm lower than the B6,enhancing its stability and handling.Special attention has been given to the tyres, specifically developed for the Nismo model, coupled with 20-inch alloys to enhance tracking and cornering capabilities on the track.Nissan assures that the vehicle will offer outstanding handling.
The interior largely mirrors the standard model but is upgraded with Nismo-branded sports seats that feature suede trim and red pinstriping, adding a touch of sportiness inside to match the exterior. The red pinstripe theme continues along the side skirts and both front and rear bumpers, rounding out the Nismo enhancements.
