Vendor Gradually Restoring Systems
CDK announced on Monday that it expects all dealerships to be operational on its dealer management system(DMS)by late July 3 or early July 4.The company,a provider of software to car dealerships, had temporarily shut down its systems in June to investigate a cyber incident.
”We are continuing our phased approach to the restoration process and are rapidly bringing dealers live on the dealer management system,”CDK stated.
Additionally,CDK reported that its customer care channels have been restored, and efforts are underway to bring other applications back online.Last week, the company successfully reactivated two small groups and one large publicly traded group of auto retailers on the DMS as part of its gradual restoration strategy.
The outage compelled some U.S.auto dealers to resort to manual paperwork while CDK,a technology and software provider for the automotive industry, worked to restore systems used by over 15,000 retail locations nationwide.
Industry analysts predict slower growth in second-quarter U.S.auto sales due to dealers struggling to access essential software amid the disruptions at CDK.
”Although the impact of these attacks will vary from dealer to dealer, this event is another speed bump on the automotive industry’s long road to recovery,”said Jessica Caldwell, head of insights at Edmunds.
The cyber attack affected approximately half of Volkswagen dealers and about 60%of Audi dealers in the United States,Reuters reported in June.
