Toyota’s decision to streamline the GR Supra lineup hints at a gradual phase-out of the coupe, especially as it becomes increasingly expensive. The 2.0-liter engine, introduced in 2021,will be discontinued for the 2025 model year, leaving the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six as the sole powertrain option. This 3.0-liter engine, which debuted in 2020,now delivers 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque,up from the original 335 hp and 365 lb-ft.
A notable feature of the Supra is the no-cost six-speed manual transmission option, introduced in 2023 alongside the eight-speed automatic. This option has significantly influenced consumer demand, shifting preferences towards the more powerful 3.0-liter variants.A Toyota spokesperson explained,”To streamline the GR Supra grade strategy and align with customer demand, the 2.0L model will be discontinued for 2025.The addition of the manual transmission in 2023 has shifted demand towards the more powerful 3.0L variants.”
With the 2.0-liter model’s discontinuation, the base price of entry for the Supra increases significantly. The 2024 GR Supra started at$47,535,but the 2025 model will start at$57,345 for the 3.0-liter version, reflecting a$9,800 increase when including the discontinuation of the 2.0-liter and an$850 MSRP hike.Prices after the$1,095 destination charge are:
-GR Supra 3.0:$57,345
-GR Supra 3.0 Premium:$60,495
These prices include a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association, offering perks like one free High Performance Driving Event(HPDE),access to driving schools at renowned race tracks, and discounted admission to NASA-sanctioned events.
The 3.0-liter Supra features a black leather and Alcantara interior, power seats,an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen,a 10-speaker audio system, adaptive suspension, and an active rear differential. The Premium trim offers additional upgrades, such as a hazelnut leather interior option and a 12-speaker JBL audio system. The color options are limited to Absolute Zero,Nocturnal Black, and Renaissance Red 2.0 at no extra cost, with Stratosphere Blue available for an additional$425.
